Kerri Zuiker

Kerri Zuiker surrounded by her favorite books and bobbleheads.

As a member of the queer community, I’m thrilled at the wide variety of LGBTQA+ books that are being published today. I think it’s vital for people to be able to see themselves represented in literature providing them with a greater sense of identity and self-worth.

It’s also important to have diverse representation of characters in media including those with disabilities and/or mental health issues. These kinds of books are starting to be more widely represented which helps to break down stereotypes and misconceptions. I also enjoy fandom books. Since my childhood obsessions with Star Wars and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, I’ve always been a geek, and love this aspect of pop culture. Whether it’s a media tie-in novel, a graphic novel or a YA novel about fan culture, I’m drawn to these books and love sharing them with others.

Some favorite titles include: Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz; Annie On My Mind by Nancy Garden; The Tea Dragon Society by Katie O’Neill; and Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli.
