Black-Out Poetry - Teens and Adults.

April is National Poetry Month!

decorative art on a page of a book

Create an original poem using old book pages and markers.

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Select a handful of book pages to take home with you from the basket provided.
  2. Scan the book page for words that stand out to you.
  3. See if these words form a sentence, an idea, or thought.
  4. Isolate those words by blacking out the surrounding words with a marker (remember to use a blotter under your page to keep marks off the table).
  5. Be creative!  Poems can be anything from profound to silly.  You can even draw pictures!

THERE IS NO WRONG WAY

TO CREATE A POEM!

Keep the poem for yourself or bring it back to John Marshall Library during the month of April to hang on the wall.
