Redistricting is the process to redraw the boundaries of electoral districts to ensure proportional representation. It is required by law and takes place after every decennial U.S. Census.

In 2021, Virginia redrew its congressional and state legislative district boundaries. The following sites provide information related to this process:

• Decennial Census P.L. 94-171 Redistricting Data Summary Files
  The U.S. Census Bureau provides the 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico with population counts to use in redistricting.
• Fairfax County — Redistricting
  Fairfax County's redistricting effort will establish new electoral districts for the Board of Supervisors and School Board. However, this effort will not change school boundaries or electoral maps for state legislators or members of Congress.
• Redistricting in Virginia
  From Virginia Public Access Project, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization.
• Virginia Redistricting Commission
  The commission, approved by the voters of Virginia in 2020, will draw Virginia's congressional and state legislative districts.
