Maker Labs @ FCPL

The Maker Lab @ Herndon is a space designed for people who love to learn, discover, and explore. It's a place where you can learn new skills, work on fun projects, and connect with other makers in your community. At our Maker Lab, you will have access to a variety of tools and equipment, including a 3D printer, sewing machines, robots and more.

Our dedicated staff and volunteers are here to help you bring your ideas to life.

Maker Lab @ Herndon Hours

          Monday-Saturday: 1pm-5pm

Maker Lab @ Herndon Expectations

  • Children 12 and under must be accompanied by a caregiver while visiting the Maker Lab.
  • Adult supervision is always required for visitors under the age of 12.
  • All tools and technology are available for use on a first-come, first-served basis. Most tools are available for independent use by patrons.
  • A staff member is present during operating hours to provide information and answer questions.
  • Only library staff members can operate the 3D printers.
  • Food is not allowed at the Maker Lab, or in the library. Covered drinks are permitted.
  • After using an item, items should be returned to their original location in a clean state.
  • Patrons are responsible for cleaning common use areas, and related equipment, when finished with an activity.
  • Notify a library staff member if an item has missing pieces, is broken, or otherwise needs attention.
  • Materials are provided for free, and visitors should strive to use materials as needed and without waste.
  • By using the space, patrons acknowledge the Maker Lab usage guidelines, and other applicable policies.

FCPL’s Code of Conduct and Internet Acceptable Use Agreement apply to the Maker Lab.

Come enjoy the POD at Pohick Regional Library!

Customers are encouraged to use the POD to engage with other community members, explore their own creativity, and learn new skills.  

The POD is open for various types of use:

  • Drop-in – Makers may use any of our materials, equipment, and space.  Activities are self-directed. No expert is available to give instruction or direction. 
  • Guided instruction; an experienced Maker is on hand to guide projects.
  • Directed instruction; step by step project, materials provided.

Pohick DIY (POD) Expectations

We ask that makers observe the following expectations in order to ensure the safety and enjoyment of other makers.

  • We welcome all Makers ages 13 and up.  Activities in this space are designed for teens and adults. Makers aged 10-12 are welcome if they are supervised by a parent or caregiver at all times. Please ask at the information desk about opportunities for Makers under the age of 10.
  • All tools and technology are available for use on a first-come, first-served basis. Most items are available for independent use by patrons. However, only library staff members can operate the 3D printers. Please DO NOT TOUCH 3D PRINTER.
  • Programs, unless otherwise specified, are also on a first come, first served basis, and may be limited by capacity.
  • Ask for help. A staff member is present during operating hours to provide information and answer questions.
  • Drop-in time is self-directed.  We cannot ensure that staff will always be available to provide expert assistance with every device and tool, but we are committed to helping our Makers create and explore and make the most of this exciting library space!
  • Please be respectful of equipment, tools, and supplies. Makers are responsible for cleaning common use areas, and related equipment, when finished with an activity.
  • Notify a library staff member if an item is missing pieces, broken, or otherwise needs attention.
  • Materials are provided for free, and Makers should strive to use materials as needed and without waste.
  • By using the space, patrons acknowledge these POD usage expectations.

FCPL’s Code of Conduct and Internet Acceptable Use Agreement apply to the POD.  Makers who do not comply may be asked to leave.

 

The TechLab is a combined workshop and classroom, where a variety of tools and classes allow visitors of all ages to learn with their hands. Visit the TechLab at Sherwood Regional Library at 2501 Sherwood Hall Lane in Alexandria.
