Internship Opportunities

MLS Students

The Fairfax County Public Library is often able to provide practicum opportunities for students pursuing their Master In Library Science (MLS) degree.  To determine if we can match you with an opportunity, we will need to know your schedule including start and end dates, requirements from your school, how many hours per week you will work, what your area of interest is (Youth Services, Information Services, Collection and Cataloging, etc.) and what area of Fairfax County you prefer to work in.

IT Students

Unpaid Library Internet Services Department interns will support and maintain our busy online resources including:

  • our external web page which receives 12 million page views per year
  • our catalog which has 25 million searches per year
  • our LibGuides which have 1 million page views per year
  • our SharePoint intranet site which has 500,000 page views per year

We are looking for interns interested in boosting user experience and better supporting our mobile customers.

Looking for students with skills in any of these areas:

  • JavaScript
  • .NET
  • SQL
  • Content Management Systems
  • SharePoint
  • Drupal
  • Springshare Suite

Interns/practicum students are not paid and there is no guarantee of future employment.  If you are interested, contact, Erin.Chernisky@fairfaxcounty.gov or 703-324-8332
