Fees & Fines

As of Jan. 1, 2022, the Fairfax County Public Library  will no longer assess late fines to the record of any borrower for most items.  Few special collection items (Chromebooks, ILL items, Mobile Hotspots, Nature Back Packs, Art Prints) will retain daily late fees.  After an item is overdue for 21 days, the customer will be billed for the replacement cost of that item, unless the item is returned.  Responsibility for returning items in a timely manner belongs to the cardholder. The library offers email notification of due date reminders to help customers avoid late fines. If you do not choose to receive email notifications about your account and have provided a phone number you will receive a phone call when an item is ten days past due.

Borrowing privileges are blocked when the amount owed is $15 or more.

Lost and Damaged Materials

Items that are more than 21 days overdue will be declared lost and the cardholder will be billed for the cost of the item.  If the long overdue item is returned, the replacement cost will be removed. Items that are damaged will be billed for the cost of the item. Once a lost item is paid for it becomes the property of the customer and the library will not provide a refund or credit if found.

Please look thoroughly before reporting a loss as the cost of the item is non-refundable should you subsequently find the item. Report lost or damaged items at any library branch, http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/library/branches.
