It's often helpful to see what what happens to your text "in real life" (IRL) when you apply various format options. On this page you can see each of the following options IRL:

• Heading 2, Heading 3, Heading 4, Heading 5
• Paragraph (Normal)
• Unordered (bullet) list
• Ordered list
• Table
• Call out
• Linked text

Important note about headings

Style for headings has been determined by Fairfax County Office of Public Affairs. Choose the appropriate heading level (Heading 3, Heading 4, etc.) and leave everything else at the default setting. In other words, never choose Alignment or apply Bold or Italic, etc., to a heading.

This is an H3 (Heading 3) tag

This is a paragraph, simply referred to as Normal format. Text in a paragraph can be formatted using the Bold, Italic, and Strikethrough buttons but the alignment options should not be used, as indicated in the following full-width image.

• An unordered (bullet) list looks like this. Nulla in risus sem. Donec convallis massa libero, in malesuada ligula rhoncus vehicula.
• Donec eleifend, purus non viverra tristique, dolor ante semper justo, id pellentesque erat tellus et erat.
  • Subordinate items have this appearance. Morbi condimentum volutpat aliquam. 

This is an H4 (Heading 4) tag

Praesent pretium posuere lorem, a placerat nisi pretium at. Morbi vel tellus mollis, ornare ligula vel, facilisis turpis. Vestibulum et libero a lacus consequat eleifend. Proin dignissim dictum nisi a vehicula.

1. An ordered list looks like this. Nam egestas magna non eros sagittis, eu tincidunt enim dapibus.
   1. Subordinate items have this appearance. Ut non scelerisque turpis. In viverra sit amet libero non pretium.
2. Pellentesque commodo turpis quis odio sodales, id vestibulum lorem ultrices.

This is what a callout looks like. To create a callout, place your cursor in the paragraph you'd like to call out. Click the double-quote icon at the top. Ut ultrices vitae metus non semper. Nulla facilisi. Quisque ornare risus odio, at vulputate nisl venenatis sit amet.
