Access Services Special Collections

  • Audio-Described DVDs

DVDs with descriptive narration have been specially enhanced to assist people with visual impairments. During pauses in the dialogue, a narrator describes the scenery, costumes, and actions that appear on the screen. Access Services maintains a small collection of classic, popular, and award-winning films in this format. 

  • Braille Awareness Kits

Media selected by Access Services staff will help groups learn about the history and use of braille. Any Fairfax County Public Library cardholder may check out a kit.

  • Perkins Braillers

Mechanical braille writer, or braille typewriter, with keys corresponding to the six dots of the braille code. Any Fairfax County Public Library cardholder may check out a Perkins Brailler.
