This book was written by a nun in her 70's. She covered a long range of circumstances that could happen as we age. She covered a wide range of things that could happen as we age. The author sort of provided a view of what's next, covering topics like: what happens when we're transitioning from doing to being, what will our thoughts be, and how do we go about aging.
What stood out to me was the essay on relationships. What happens when you don't have to get up and go to work to be with co-workers, and your list of friends is thinning out? What if you just prefer to hibernate in the comforts of your apartment and you just give up on engaging? In this case, I think the author is pointing out that this part of aging is when we reinvent ourselves and make ourselves interesting again as we are interested in others. It is like reaching out to new beginnings.
To be honest, I had high hopes when I picked this book to read. I wanted to find something to solidify something hopeful and filled with wisdom, but what I came up with is that aging is not the end. It is just a transition to who we are becoming, a gift and a chance to become who we are meant to be.
