This book is a good alternative for fans of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series. It is a compilation of inspiring short essays. My favorite was More Than Meets the Eye by Susanne C. (page 277). I like how the writer's old self tells her story about when she was 14. She remembered how she never had a close relationship with her mother and how they were so poor that they qualified for free school lunches.
Back then, she was looking for eyeglasses, the optometrist noticed how she really wanted to get the Aviator style. She thought that style really looked good on her and spelled CONFIDENCE across her face. She remembered that even though the glasses weren't in her price range, the optometrist gave them to her without telling her that someone else would take care of the difference her cost and the retail price.
On that note, please let me share my recent experience while grocery shopping at Harris Teeter. I wasn't even thinking that it was a Thursday, and it was Seniors Discount Day. At the checkout line, I was surprised that the cashier gave me 5% off. How dare he not ID me to make sure that I qualified for the discount! Yet, on the other hand, I could just think that he just wanted to give me the discount anyway.
