All About Holds

  • FCPL customers may place up to 30 items on HOLD and have them sent to any branch of their choosing for pick up
  • Once your HOLD becomes available you will receive notification, by email or phone, that you have 7 days to pick up your item(s)
  • If you need more than 7 days to collect your HOLD or if you wish to cancel your HOLD, please contact your Branch pick up location or email LibAccountServices@fairfaxcounty.gov

Placing and Managing Your Holds

Login to the catalog. If you have not logged in, you will be asked to login for each item you wish to place on hold.

Conduct your search.

Your next steps depend on the number of item matches returned.

1) One match: Click on the words "Place Hold" in the left column. Select from the drop-down menu the library branch where you would like to pick up the item. Click on the "Place Hold" button.

2) More than one match: Select a title by clicking on "Details" in the left column. Click on the words "Place Hold" in the left column. Select from the drop-down menu the library branch where you would like to pick up the item. Click on the "Place Hold" button.

You have seven business days to pick up an item once the library has notified you that it is available.

The library will contact you by e-mail or phone, depending on the preference shown in your account information. If you wish to change your preference, please use the Library Card Information Change form or ask staff on your next visit to the library.
