The Matchmaker's Gift by Lynda Cohen Loigman

The Matchmaker's Gift is about a gift that was given to a 10-year-old girl, Sarah, who could see stars and sparks when she found two individuals who were meant to be with each other. She could simply see two people's perfect match. She found her first match for her sister on the ship on the way to New York from Libava in 1910.

It was hard for her to publicly share her gift since being a matchmaker was a man's job during that time. she needed to use her matchmaking skills in secret until the men found out as they were losing their clients. Eventually, it was made known to everybody. It seems that it was hard for a woman to do anything in the old days; they needed to work hard to earn a place in the industry.

The story's plot seemed harsh as a reality, but the entire book was a sweet narrative of how people found their match in the early 1900's. I like the flow of communication between characters as they were just speaking to each other right in front of me. It was real enough to make it memorable.

Sarah worked and found matches until the day she died, and when she passed away, she left a box for her grandmother to help her granddaughter understand what she had been doing, so that perhaps her granddaughter would follow in her footsteps of being a matchmaker.
