This original book review was written by and posted on behalf of Laurel Jackson.

Raised in Gaea Station along with the last remnants of humanity, Kyr has trained her entire life to avenge the murder of Earth. She's one of the best of her class, but when her twin brother is selected for a top secret mission and Kyr is assigned to the nursery to bear children until she dies, something inside her snaps. She decides to rebel and to take Earth's vengeance upon herself. Or die trying.

There are some books that you know right from the first sentence is going to be a five-star read.

Despite having the most insufferable protagonist I have read in a long time, I kept reading and could not stop.

The twists. The turns. Just when I thought the book was going one way, it swerved, serving up plotlines that had me heaving in shock and delight. On the surface, this is the story of a girl striving to avenge the murder of her people, but at its core, it's about the end of humanity and the end of the world and learning to be an empathetic human in a world determined to strip you of your humanity.

This is military science fiction at its best.
