Under the Whispering Door is a modern adaptation of Greek mythology about the divide between the land of the living and the dead, Hades. After dying of a heart attack, Wallace ends up in Charon’s Crossing Tea and Treats Shop. The shop is run by Hugo, the ferryman. Wallace, seemingly stuck between the living and the dead, spends his time evaluating his life and realizes how much he hated the person he was. With the help of the ferryman and the others that live with Hugo, Wallace finds love and friendship. But this discovery might be too late, for the “manger” is ready to have the ferryman send Wallace to the other side. Fans of T.J. Klune's The House in the Cerulean Sea and its cast of LGBTQ+ characters will undoubtedly enjoy Under the Whispering Door, too.
