Last Thanksgiving, I visited The Broad, a contemporary art museum in Los Angeles (with my sister’s family). I took pictures of one piece of art to the next. I was amazed at how each art work speaks. Every piece has its own meaning, each piece has its own voice.
Reading Piecing Me Together allowed me to see the artist with the work they represent—as this book is about the story of Jade, a high school scholar and an artist. She creates collages out of ordinary things like candy wrappers, magazine pages, receipts, and newspapers. And out of these simple and ordinary things, comes out a wonderful piece of art.
I did not see her art, but her story gave me an idea where each piece came from or would come from. As each piece has a voice. A voice to be real, to be heard and to be seen. Piece by piece, by bringing forth her voice as a person, as a dreamer, and as an artist. Her art showed her story.
It was a treat to hear this book on RB Digital audiobooks collection. It was read by the author.
