The Oysterville Sewing Circle by Susan Wiggs

I found this book to be about choices. Choices that are constantly made for the next thing in front of us. Choices to do what is right - towards what is calling us. Caroline faced the decision of what to do with her friends’ children Flick and Addie when their mother “Angelique” died in Caroline’s apartment of a drug overdose. Caroline grieved remorsefully for she had observed some form of assault on her friend before her death and did not do anything about it.

Looking at the present, she chose to be the children’s guardian amid being unemployed and having no career prospect. She also created a support group called the Oysterville Sewing Circle where women could be seen and hear each other's shared pain on domestic abuse. The created space brought these women to see themselves and life in a better light. Seeing themselves fearless into the present and their future, seeing that in choosing to be brave, life follows.
