Cozy up with a good book and read this winter! Participating in our Winter Reading Adventure is as easy as 1-2-3:
- On November 24, go to Beanstack and pre-register for the Winter Reading Adventure. Don't want to use Beanstack? Paper logs will be available on December 1.
- Depending on your age, earn ten or fifteen virtual badges by reading or listening to books, reading for 20 or 30 minutes, completing activities or a combination of all three. We have age-appropriate reading goals for Birth-2nd Grade, 3rd-6th Grades, Teens and Adults.
- Once you have met the reading goals for your age/grade, visit your neighborhood library branch and receive prizes for finishing the program!

Reading is Important!
Whether it’s emails at work or bedtime stories to our children, reading is an important skill that many of us use every day. While this reading is undoubtedly important, there is another type of reading that we should prioritize in our lives – recreational reading. According to George Mason University, benefits of recreational reading include:
- Managing stress by increasing enjoyment and relaxation.
- Improving concentration, working memory and cognitive development.
- Expanding vocabulary and knowledge of the world, making readers better writers and communicators.
- Developing empathy by improving understanding of ourselves and those who are different from us.
This winter, grab a book - audible books count, too! - and read!
