Reading Adventures for Youth and Adults

Registering for Beanstack Challenges:

  1. Go to the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Download and open the Beanstack Tracker app.
  2. Choose At my library, school or bookstore.
  3. Using the Find a Site search bar, type Fairfax.
  4. Select Fairfax County Public Library (VA).
  5. At the bottom of screen, you’ll see Don’t have an account? Select Sign up!
  6. Select No when asked if you have previously used Beanstack with Fairfax County Public Library.
  7. Create an account by adding an email and creating a password. Select Continue.
  8. Add your First and Last Name and select Continue.
  9. Add a Phone Number and Zip Code. (This is optional.) Select Continue.
  10. Choose a Library. Entering your Library Card Number is optional.
  11. Your account is created! You can add additional information about yourself or add additional readers.
  12. You will be directed to the challenges we are currently offering. Choose any upcoming Challenges in which you would like to participate, or you can use Beanstack to track the books you’re reading and write book reviews

WHEN USING THE BEANSTACK TRACKER APP:

  • Once you enter a book title, it is possible to use a timer to track how long you read.
  • Keep track of your email and password.

Logging Time Read and Completing Activities:

  1. Go to the Beanstack app.
  2. The Home screen has a summary of your reading activities.
  3. To log time read, touch the plus sign in the green button at the bottom of the screen.
  4. Touch the Reading button to log time spent reading.
  5. If you have more than one reader in your account, you will be prompted to choose the reader you are logging for.
  6. Choose your logging method.
  7. When logging by book title, if you only know part of the title, you can choose Search for a Title and enter what you know.
  8. Touch the title that you want to log.
  9. If you want to track your reading progress as you progress through a book, keep the Track progress button on. If you would like to only add minutes read to your log, turn off the Track progress button.
  10. To log books read in the past, you can enter the date you read and time spent reading. Make sure time is entered as minutes (e.g., 1 hour, 10 minutes; 20 minutes; 35 minutes, etc.). Time you log will be counted towards the reading goals of the challenge, meaning you will earn badges. Reading time counts for a challenge only if happens while a challenge is currently active.
  11. As you earn badges and rewards for reading, you will receive notifications that about the rewards you earned.
