Reading Adventures for Youth and Adults

Our Summer Reading Adventure is for YOUTH and ADULTS and participating is as easy as 1-2-3!

  1. Go to fairfaxcounty.beanstack.org and register for the Summer Reading Adventure appropriate for you or your children. 
  2. Depending on your age, earn ten or fifteen virtual badges by reading or listening to books, reading for 20 or 30 minutes, completing activities or a combination of all three.
  3. Once you have met the reading goals for your age/grade, visit your local library branch and receive prizes for finishing the program!

The World We Write Short Story Contest

Fairfax County Public Library and the Fairfax Library Foundation invite school-age youth (3rd-6th grade), teens (7th-12th grade) and adults (18+) to participate in our second annual "The World We Write" short story writing contest. Use one of five prompts to write a 250-word story and submit it online.

Entries may be submitted from July 1 - 31, 2025. Learn More: Youth and Adults.

Teen Chopped Challenge 

Create your own unique recipe for FCPL's Teen Chopped Challenge! Use our three mystery ingredients to make something fun and delicious. A limited quantity of ingredient kits will be available at select library branches. These are first come, first served.

This competition is for ages 12-18. Kits will be available at: Centreville RegionalChantilly Regional, George Mason Regional, Pohick Regional and Sherwood Regional.

Summer Reading Passport 2025

Our Summer Reading Adventure Passport is for YOUTH and ADULTS and participating is as easy as 1-2-3!

  1. Go to any Fairfax County Public Library and pick up a Summer Reading Adventure Passport. 
  2. Visit five library branches and receive a stamp at each location.
  3. Once you have visited five library branches, turn in your passport at your local library branch and receive a small prize!

Beginning June 4, go to Beanstack to register for summer reading, and you will be entered into a drawing to receive a $25 e-gift card from Scrawl Books! The Fairfax Library Foundation wants to encourage recreational reading, and they have given the library 80 e-gift cards that we will award to 20 preschoolers, 20 school-age children, 20 teens and 20 adults. Winners will be notified by Wednesday, June 25.
