Board of Trustees Policy Manual

The purpose of this manual is to provide to the members of the Fairfax County Library (FCPL) Board of Trustees, the Library Administration and staff, all of the basic statutes, regulations and policies pertinent to the overall direction of FCPL

Policy Regarding the Library Code of Conduct

Fairfax County Public Library Code of Conduct is for use in library buildings to help guide and define acceptable behaviors in library spaces.The Code of Conduct shall be posted in a public area.

Fairfax County Public Library welcomes customers; we expect all visitors to be respectful of our neighbors, staff and facilities and engage in activities associated with the use of the Library. In particular we prohibit:

  1. Damaging library materials/property or removing them without permission; rearranging the furniture
  2. Obstructing or monopolizing any library space
  3. Use of library computers/Internet access in violation of Virginia Code*
  4. Inappropriate use of the restrooms
  5. Eating (except in designated areas)
  6. Alcoholic beverages and illegal drugs
  7. Smoking and use of tobacco products
  8. Disruptive behavior
  9. Harassing, threatening or intimidating language or behavior
  10. Animals (except service animals)
  11. Soliciting or distributing literature without prior approval

A person who fails to observe these rules may be asked to leave and could have future access to Fairfax County Public Library limited or suspended. The Library works in partnership with the Fairfax County and City of Fairfax Police Departments to keep its customers, staff and facilities safe. Thank you for your cooperation.
